As Christmas cards begin to arrive, finding space for them may become a problem. If this is the case, why not look at them as Christmas decorations in their own right? Cards put on top of dusty shelves will never look anything other than dejected.

If you decide to decorate with Christmas cards, remember that they look best displayed en mass rather than spread around the room. The best solution would be to designate a side table or shelf for your Christmas cards collection, displaying the largest at the back and the smallest at the front. Secure those cards that tend to slip or do the splits with adhesive gum or tape.

One of the simplest ways to arrange a mass display of cards is on shelves filled with books. Just slide the backs of the cards between the volumes, and the front images are then suspended across the spines of the books.

Another pleasantly casual approach would be to tuck smaller Christmas cards around the mirror frame. For a more sophisticated look, suspend cards on lengths of ribbon weighted with crystal drops or baubles, or display your cards on a miniature clothes line with scaled down, glitter-coated clothespegs.

Cards on ribbons suspended in windows would look wonderful too. If you decide to go with this approach, remember to cover the back of the cards with bright paper in different colors, so that the windows would look good from the outside as from the inside.

If there are bare stretches of wall in your house, they can be adorned with panel of fabric hung at regular intervals onto which Christmas cards can be pinned as they continue to arrive. This will spare the walls any permanent damage to paintwork or wallpaper. Another great idea would be to get twig mesh from your local florist for the cards’ display. Just punch a hole in each card and tie it onto the mesh with bright ribbon, raffia or yarn.
